Welcome Amanda!

This week we welcome Amanda Sorourbakhsh, AMFT 124935 to our Mission Valley location. She is currently taking in person clients of all ages, couples and families. She also offers Telehealth for all of California.

From Amanda:

How can we create beauty from the ruins?" This profound question, gifted to me by a former client, lies at the heart of my practice. It has revolutionized my view of therapy into a journey where we turn limitations into possibilities and life challenges into opportunities, empowering clients to rebuild and discover beauty in the complexity of their human experiences.

With a unique blend of over five years of experience in trauma-informed counseling, social justice advocacy, and energy work, I bring a distinct perspective to my practice. Combining personal insights, professional training, and a deep-rooted passion for fostering safety within marginalized communities, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is inclusive and empowering. As the daughter of Mexican and Iranian immigrants, raised in the borderland of San Diego, CA (the traditional lands of the Kumeyaay nations), I have always sought a sense of belonging and safety. This journey of navigating hybrid identities has not only cultivated a sensitivity in relating to others but also profoundly informs my understanding of the diverse challenges many face.

Amanda Sorourbakhsh, AMFT

As a San Diego State University graduate, I earned a Master of Science in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy (2020) and an M.A. in Education, Counseling (2018). My training at the Center for Community Counseling and Engagement has allowed me to support the resilience of individuals, couples, youth, and families, particularly those identifying as BIPOC and LGBTQ. Together, we have addressed issues such as personal distress, depression, anxiety, identity, and relationships using client-centric, evidence-based interventions, including Narrative and Emotionally-Focused Therapy. My therapeutic philosophy is rooted in decolonizing, evidence-based, holistic, and life-affirming practices, combined with a systemic lens and respect for intersectionality while promoting holistic healing. I also have studied and become a certified yoga guide (2017) and Reiki Level 1 practitioner (2017), remaining dedicated to preserving these ancient practices' spiritual, social, and political integrity. I assist in facilitating sacred ceremonies and gain knowledge in womb healing through circles incorporating literature, yoga, affirmations, nutrition, and storytelling. Understanding how our minds, bodies, and souls experience life is crucial to creating abundant, soul-full lives.

My commitment to mental health extends beyond the therapy room. I actively engage with the community, volunteering for organizations supporting unsheltered individuals, harm reduction, and advocating for the decriminalization of psilocybin mushrooms.

The phrase "Don't just go through life, grow through it" encapsulates my dedication to personal development and resonates deeply with my mission as a therapist. At Grow Through Life Counseling, you are not alone. I am here to help nurture the seeds you choose to sow into the beautiful garden of your life. My approach is rooted in compassion, community, creativity, and curiosity. I support healing by fostering these values, empowering you to make sense of your life experiences, amplify your sense of agency, and find alignment with your inner truth.

Inspired by Ram Dass's sentiment, "We're all just walking each other home," I am committed to walking alongside my clients on their unique paths. Together, we will find safety and belonging on your journey toward healing, self-discovery, and empowerment. With a passion for prioritizing mental and soul health, I am energized by the hope of supporting you in addressing your unique lived experiences and helping create beauty from the ruins.
