Kara Kohnen
Welcome Sophie Gazda, LPCC
Sophie specializes in OCD, LGBTQIA+ support, general mental health diagnosis/comorbid disorders (depression, anxiety, substance use, etc), and has experience in treating Hoarding disorders, Trauma disorders, and supporting the removal of barriers to communication while reducing accommodation in the home environment. Sophie enjoys working with adults, children, adolescents, families, and couples to support goals.

She uses an eclectic approach: Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, and psychodynamic. She thinks starting therapy is a courageous decision and recognizes there is no “one-fits-all” approach to treatment. Sophie uses and models authentic self-expression in sessions and provides more directive support when needed. Sophie believes the therapeutic rapport between herself and the client can serve as a significant source of growth and seeks to establish an alliance that is non-judgmental, caring, and open, while helping you to leave treatment knowing you made progress (even if non-linear). She has over 20 years of experience working in a wide array of mental health specialties, including: inpatient, outpatient, PHP, and crisis centers. Sophie has Master’s in Clinical Counseling from the University of Phoenix, where she served as President of the Counseling Honor Society and is a National Certified Counselor.
Sophie is now accepting new patients in La Mesa, CA in person or via Telehealth in CA. Please call our intake team at 619-549-0329 ext 0 to book with her today!
