Abel completed his Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2003. He started working with children and families in a substance abuse treatment program, and also working in transitioning children back home after being placed into protective custody by Child Welfare Services. He also has worked with adults with severe mental illness in two of San Diego County's Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinics.
He conducted assessments and provided individual care. He has also conducted group therapy on topics such as: anger Management, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and a men's group. In 2015, he was contracted with the San Diego Regional Center providing individual and group therapy to adults with Borderline Intellectual Disabilities, using a Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach. Able is married and has five daughters. Abel was born in Mexico; then immigrated at a young age with his adoptive parents and brother.
